HeatWave is a new high-performance integrated analytics engine for the MySQL Database Service. HeatWave accelerates MySQL performance by 400 times for analytical queries, scales to thousands of cores.
Database Service, with HeatWave, is the only service that allows DBAs and application developers to run OLTP and OLAP workloads directly from their MySQL database, eliminating the need for complex, time-consuming and costly data movement and integration with a separate analytics database.
With this new offering Oracle takes on Amazon Redshift and Aurora, and claims it is 2.7 times faster at one-third the cost of Amazon Redshift. The service is optimized for and exclusively available in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Some of the highlights of HeatWave engine:
- Native integration with MySQL database
- Native integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Vectorized in-memory columnar processing
- Massively parallel architecture
- State of the art, hardware aware distributed query processing algorithms
- Intelligent scheduler to hide compute time with network communication
- Data driven automation
